Yes, that's true. You can do this trick at home to impress your friends in a party or as even a school project or a magic show!
How is it possible?
There are a several ways known to humans by which we can create fire or explosions like sodium in water or magnesium in water. But that's really UNSTABLE. A simpler method is to use just two cheap ingredients, which are potassium permanganate and glycerin.
How does it happen?
Here is a reaction which describes the happening.
14 KMnO4 + 3 C3H8O3 ⇒ 14 MnO2 + 7 K2CO3 + 2 CO2 + 12 H2O

It is an exothermic reaction which gives out manganese oxide, potassium carbonate,

Just take a petri dish and make a mountain (small) of potassium permanganate. Press the tip and make it look like a volcano. Now add the lava(glycerin) to your volcano and BOOM!!!
